India launches advanced NMMS app to prevent fraud in rural employment scheme

Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has introduced an advanced version of the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app to prevent fraudulent attendance under the ‘VB-G Ram Ji’ scheme. Developed in technical collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and other agencies, the upgraded application aims to ensure transparency and protect public funds.

The new version incorporates several high-tech security features, including device-level security checks, AI-based facial verification, and ‘liveness detection’ to prevent app cloning or tampering. These measures were implemented following complaints regarding fake attendance and individuals claiming wages under others' names.

To address connectivity issues in remote areas, the app now supports offline attendance recording. Data can be uploaded once network connectivity is restored. Additionally, the government has provided alternative arrangements for elderly workers, persons with disabilities, and those facing technical difficulties with mobile devices.

Minister Chouhan also noted that 10.997 crore farmer IDs have been created nationwide, with the country nearing its target of 11 crore IDs by December 2027.
