India launches Blue Economy painting competition
The Indian Department of Fisheries, in collaboration with MyGov, is launching a nationwide painting competition to mark National Fish Farmers Day 2026. The campaign is themed ‘Blue Economy for Viksit Bharat’ and aims to raise awareness regarding the fisheries sector, promote sustainable fishing practices, and highlight the role of fish farmers in India’s economy.
National Fish Farmers Day is observed annually on July 10 to commemorate the 1957 scientific achievement of induced breeding of Indian Major Carps by Dr. Hiralal Chaudhuri and Dr. K. H. Alikunhi. The competition invites original artworks created using traditional media, such as watercolor or oil, to creatively depict the journey of the Blue Economy. The top 30 participants will receive certificates from the Department of Fisheries.
