India Launches Digital CKYC 2.0 System for Faster Financial Services
India’s Central KYC Registry is being upgraded to CKYC 2.0, a fully digital, consent‑based system that will roll out in phases starting on August 1. The new platform stores each customer’s verified KYC information in a secure database and assigns a unique 14‑digit CKYC identifier. When a person seeks services from a bank, insurer, mutual‑fund house or other financial institution, the provider can retrieve the stored data instantly after the customer gives consent via an OTP, eliminating the need to repeatedly submit documents such as Aadhaar, PAN or proof of address.
The reform aims to make the KYC process faster, more secure and transparent, while reducing fraud and the administrative burden on both customers and institutions. By allowing instant, consent‑driven access to verified identity data, CKYC 2.0 is expected to streamline account opening, loan applications, insurance purchases and other financial transactions across the country.
