PM Narendra Modi launches nationwide drug‑free youth campaign in India

On 2 August 2026 Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Nasha Mukta Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyaan” via video conference. The initiative is a 100‑week nationwide Jan Bhagidari movement that seeks to inspire young people to stay away from substance abuse and become ambassadors of positive social change.

The campaign targets participation from roughly 10,000 locations across India and expects more than one crore (10 million) youth to take a drug‑free pledge. Weekly activities will be organised every Sunday and will include sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programmes, awareness campaigns, nukkad nataks, discussion forums, art competitions and community‑engagement projects. Volunteers and organisations making significant contributions will be recognised at the 50th, 75th and 100th‑week milestones.

The effort is coordinated by MY Bharat youth volunteers and aligns with the broader vision of a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and the development goal “Viksit Bharat 2047”. A regional launch in Uttarakhand saw over 800 youths pledge support, illustrating the campaign’s grassroots reach.
