India Launches Nationwide Hepatitis B Screening Campaign on World Hepatitis Day
Pharmaceutical company Cipla partnered with the Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL) to begin the "Mission Defeat Hepatitis" initiative on World Hepatitis Day. The first phase aims to screen 150,000 people through 5,000 doctors and create the World’s Largest Liver Model, with a target of 250,000 screenings across more than 8,500 camps nationwide. Dr. Jaideep Gogtay, Chief Medical Officer of Cipla, emphasized the need for early diagnosis, noting that only about 3 % of India’s estimated 40 million chronic Hepatitis B cases are identified.
In Assam, district health authorities conducted week‑long awareness programs, including rallies in Dibrugarh, Golaghat and Udalguri. Officials such as Dr. Ranjit Hazarika, Dr. Mukhtar Hussain and other health officers highlighted prevention, early detection and free treatment for hepatitis A‑E, reinforcing the national drive to break down the disease’s burden.
