India Launches New June 1 Rules on LPG Prices, UPI Payments and Fuel Taxes
Effective 1 June 2026, the Indian government introduced a package of consumer‑facing regulations. LPG cylinder prices are being revised, and users with PNG connections must surrender LPG cylinders within 30 days. A new requirement will display the payee’s registered bank name before a UPI transaction is completed to curb fraud. The government also intensified the push to link PAN with Aadhaar, warning that non‑linked individuals could face restrictions on banking and tax services.
Banking rules were changed: ATM cash‑withdrawal fees increase after the free‑transaction limit, while cash deposits up to ₹50,000 no longer require PAN. HDFC Bank set new monthly caps of ₹10,000 for low‑value notes and ₹5,000 for coins, with a 2 % surcharge for excess. Fuel policy was altered with reduced export duties on petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel, alongside new excise taxes of ₹1.5 per litre on petrol, ₹13.5 per litre on diesel and ₹9.5 per litre on ATF. Automobile manufacturers announced price hikes for several car models. Solar‑panel subsidies will now be limited to approved manufacturers, and border trade with neighboring regions has resumed.
