India lifts domestic LPG cylinder price to ₹942 as fuel costs surge
Effective midnight, the Indian government raised the price of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder by ₹29. In Delhi the price rose from ₹913 to ₹942, while other cities saw similar jumps – Patna ₹1,040, Kolkata ₹968, Mumbai ₹941.50 and Chennai ₹957.50.
At the same time, commercial LPG cylinder rates were increased, with Delhi adding ₹42 and Kolkata ₹53.50 to the 19 kg cylinders. The supply cost of LPG has climbed to about ₹1,200 per cylinder, driven by a sharp rise in global propane prices. Officials said the recent hike partially offsets an earlier loss of roughly ₹703 per domestic cylinder that the state‑run oil firms were incurring.
The government maintains that despite higher global prices, domestic LPG rates remain lower than those in many neighboring countries and that steps are being taken to sustain fuel inventories and household supply.
