India LPG price hike draws criticism from opposition MP
Domestic LPG prices in India were raised by Rs 29 per cylinder amid a cost surge linked to the West Asia crisis. AAP MP Sanjay Singh questioned government claims that Indian gas prices are comparable to the United States and Canada, noting India’s per‑capita income rank of 142 and describing the increase as an added burden for citizens. Singh also accused the government of being distracted by communal tensions and exam‑paper leaks, and of refusing to acknowledge rising inflation and a weakening rupee.
RLD leader Malook Nagar defended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying India’s petroleum inflation is around 7 %—far below global rates of 12.5 % to 90 %—and asserted that the government is working to prevent further hikes. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reiterated that Indian households still pay less for cooking gas than neighbours and advanced economies such as the United States, Australia and Canada.
