India LPG price hike strains hotels and consumers

From June 1, India’s government increased LPG cylinder prices. The 5 kg free‑trade cylinder rose by ₹11, reaching ₹821.50 in Delhi. Commercial cylinders also went up, with the 19 kg cylinder adding ₹42 to ₹3,113.50 in Delhi and ₹53 to ₹3,255.50 in Kolkata.

In Bengaluru, hotel and catering operators say the commercial LPG price rose by ₹46, pushing monthly costs sharply higher. While hotel groups say they are not passing the increase to diners for now, they are bearing the added expense themselves. Commercial cylinder prices have jumped from about ₹1,845 in March to ₹3,199, an increase of ₹1,354. Industry representatives are exploring alternatives such as electric cooking and bio‑fuel to mitigate future fuel volatility.
