India maintains GPF interest at 7.1% and launches EPFO Aadhaar portal for dormant PF accounts

The Indian government confirmed that the General Provident Fund (GPF) interest rate will remain at 7.1% for the period July to September 2026, matching the Public Provident Fund (PPF) rate, while the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) offers an 8.25% rate for fiscal year 2025‑26.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) introduced a new Aadhaar‑linked digital portal that enables salaried workers to locate, transfer and merge inoperative provident‑fund accounts. The platform, announced by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Shobha Karandlaje in a Lok Sabha response on July 27, 2026, allows users to trace dormant accounts, consolidate balances into an active Universal Account Number (UAN), and file settlement claims online, reducing reliance on manual paperwork and employer verification.
