India manages flood relief in Uttar Pradesh and water conservation in Tamil Nadu

In Uttar Pradesh, authorities have intensified flood relief operations as flooding affects 173 villages across 13 districts. Approximately 84,362 people and 13,058 hectares of land have been impacted. The government has relocated 4,845 people to safer locations and established 1,589 flood outposts and 1,263 shelters. Relief efforts include the deployment of 16 NDRF teams, along with SDRF and PAC personnel, as well as hundreds of boats, medical teams, and ambulances.

To prevent disease, medical teams have treated over 19,000 people, and authorities are distributing chlorine tablets and conducting larvicide spraying. Rivers such as the Ghaghra, Ganga, and Sharda are reported to be flowing at or near danger levels.

In Tamil Nadu, the state government announced plans to create 10,000 new ponds in rural areas at an estimated cost of Rs 650 crore to improve water resources and irrigation. The initiative includes constructing 27 check dams across 13 districts to recharge groundwater and renovate 7,500 km of irrigation canals. Additionally, the government plans to develop 1,000 acres of grazing land to mitigate climate change impacts.
