India maritime sector sees record chemical handling and new e-Methanol plant project

Adani Hazira Port has recorded its largest-ever chemical parcel handling, processing 72,000 metric tonnes of liquid bulk aboard the MT NCC Fajr. The shipment, supplied by SABIC, consisted of methanol, Monoethylene Glycol (MEG), and Diethylene Glycol (DEG).

In a separate maritime development, the Deendayal Port Authority and Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited are set to lay the foundation stone for a 150 TPD e-Methanol plant in Kandla on September 26, 2026. The project, valued at approximately ₹2,300 crore, is designed to support India’s transition to cleaner marine fuels and reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels. The facility is expected to create over 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.
