India maternal health: High-risk pregnancies reach nearly 50 percent
An analysis by the ICMR indicates that nearly half of all pregnancies in India are classified as high-risk. The country currently reports a maternal mortality rate of approximately 88 deaths per 100,000 live births, with a national target to reduce this figure to 70 by 2030.
In response to these challenges, Zydus Hospitals in Ahmedabad has established a specialized department for high-risk pregnancy and IVF care. The facility is equipped with a dedicated Gynec ICU, NICU, and an in-house blood bank to manage complications such as placenta abnormalities, multiple gestations, and pre-existing conditions like diabetes or hypertension.
