India Meteorological Department issues orange thunderstorm alerts for Odisha and Delhi-NCR

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across Odisha, placing ten districts under an orange warning and twenty under a yellow warning. Heavy rain was forecast for Kandhamal, Koraput, Rayagada and other southern districts, with gusty winds of 40‑50 km/h and advice to avoid open areas and stay alert for lightning.

In addition, the IMD announced an orange alert for Delhi‑NCR, predicting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 50‑70 km/h across districts such as South East Delhi, East Delhi and Shahdara. Nearby areas in Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan were also warned of similar conditions. Authorities urged residents to secure loose items, avoid sheltering under trees or near electric poles, and drive cautiously due to reduced visibility and potential water‑logging.
