India Ministry of Defence signs Rs 770 crore radar deal with BEL

The Indian Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth approximately Rs 770 crore with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to procure Improved Low-Level Lightweight Radar (LLLR-I) systems. The procurement is intended to enhance the Indian Army's air defence capabilities, specifically to detect, track, and prioritize aerial targets ranging from fighter-jet-sized objects to mini and micro drones.

This deal aligns with India's strategic goal of indigenizing air defence platforms and strengthening the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem. The move follows other recent high-value indigenous acquisitions, including the Rs 2,563 crore GSAT-7C communication satellite for the Indian Air Force and Rs 1,543 crore worth of Varunastra heavy-weight torpedoes for the Indian Navy.
