India Ministry of Finance keeps small savings interest rates unchanged

The Indian Ministry of Finance has announced that interest rates for various small savings schemes will remain unchanged for the October–December 2026 quarter. This decision maintains the rates established in the previous quarter, marking a period of stability for retail investors.

Key interest rates include 8.2% for the Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSY) and the Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS), 7.7% for the National Savings Certificate (NSC), 7.5% for Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), and 7.4% for the Post Office Monthly Income Scheme (MIS). The Public Provident Fund (PPF) will continue to offer a 7.1% annual interest rate.

These schemes are widely used by Indian households for secure, government-backed savings. The decision to hold rates steady comes despite market discussions regarding rising inflation and government security yields, which some analysts suggested could have prompted a rate hike.
