India: Multiple deaths reported during religious immersion ceremonies

Multiple drowning incidents occurred during religious immersion ceremonies in India, resulting in several fatalities.

In Odisha, 12 people, including six children, died across six separate incidents during Ganesh Visarjan. In Jagatsinghpur district, four young men approximately 20 years old were swept away by a strong river current. Other fatalities were reported in Ganjam, Sundargarh, Bhadrak, and Koraput districts, involving both children and adults in rivers and ponds.

In Maharashtra, two students in the Katol area of Nagpur drowned in a pond while accompanying their mothers for Gauri Visarjan. The victims, identified as Ayush Harish Kumar and Darshan alias Daksh Dhanraj Lad, were in the 7th and 8th grades, respectively. They reportedly moved into deeper water while the immersion was taking place.
