15‑year‑old Vaibhav Suryavanshi named in India’s T20I squad, shattering age record
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the India senior men’s T20I squad for its upcoming series against Ireland and England. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed captain, with Tilak Varma as vice‑captain. Fifteen‑year‑old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included, becoming the youngest player ever to be selected for India at age 15 years 15 days, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record.
The Ireland leg will feature two T20 matches on 26 and 28 June in Belfast, followed by a five‑match T20 series and three ODIs against England in July. In addition, India will compete in a Tri‑Series in Sri Lanka, and BCCI officials have arranged for Vaibhav’s father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, to travel with him to Sri Lanka and, if desired, to the United Kingdom for the England tour.
Vaibhav’s selection follows an explosive IPL 2026 season where he amassed 776 runs in 16 innings, hitting 72 sixes, which prompted selectors to fast‑track him into the senior side.
