India: New financial and administrative rules effective November 1
Several financial and administrative changes are set to take effect in India on November 1, impacting pensioners, taxpayers, and consumers.
LPG cylinder prices for both commercial and domestic use will undergo their monthly review, with new rates being released by state oil marketing companies. Additionally, biometric e-KYC remains mandatory for subsidy recipients under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to ensure continued benefits.
For pensioners under the age of 80, the window to submit the annual Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan) opens on November 1. These certificates must be submitted by November 30 via bank branches, post offices, or digital apps to prevent the temporary suspension of monthly pension payments in December.
In taxation, the Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for certain audited taxpayers to file their returns. For the assessment year 2026-27, eligible taxpayers under audit may now file by November 21 instead of the previous October 31 deadline. While the central cabinet previously decided to adjust disability pension eligibility and amounts, new guidelines have not yet been released to implement these changes by November 1.
