India regional news: Health crises and drug enforcement actions

Various regional developments have been reported across India, including public health and law enforcement actions in Rajasthan and Nagaland.

In Rajasthan, Agriculture Minister Kirodi Lal Meena has been admitted to the intensive care unit at Sawai Man Singh Hospital after testing positive for swine flu. Separately, Governor Haribhau Bagde reviewed the tuberculosis situation and anti-drug measures in the Dausa district, urging officials to work toward a drug-free region and ensure timely TB treatment. Additionally, authorities in Rajasthan have suspended 215 private pharmacies from the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) due to alleged negligence and delays in dispensing medicines to beneficiaries.

In Nagaland, Dimapur Police conducted a raid on a warehouse in Marwari Patti, seizing 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup. The operation, part of a “War on Drugs” campaign, resulted in the recovery of 126 cartons of various cough syrups, and an investigation is underway to dismantle the local distribution network.

In Himachal Pradesh, the Department of Animal Husbandry is monitoring an outbreak of lumpy skin disease in Hamirpur, where four calves have died and 48 cattle have been infected.
