India observes Gandhi Jayanti with cleanliness and sustainability initiatives

Various regions in India are observing Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas through initiatives focused on cleanliness, non-violence, and community service.

In Arunachal Pradesh, district administrations organized cleanliness drives, plantation programs, and awareness marches. In Itanagar, Chief Minister Pema Khandu launched the ‘Swachhta Vahaan’ to spread awareness about clean living and administered a cleanliness pledge to volunteers. The celebrations also included sapling planting under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative.

In the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Department of Science & Technology is organizing a reel-making competition themed ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’. The contest encourages students and the public to create digital content promoting waste management, the reduction of single-use plastics, and sustainable environmental practices.
