India Opposition Leaders Criticized Over Demand to Meet Chief Justice

Former Solicitor General Harish Salve has criticized leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, following their demand to meet with the Chief Justice of India (CJI). Salve described the attempt to meet the CJI as “sheer foolishness” and argued that it represents an effort to turn the Supreme Court into a political pawn.

Salve noted that the judiciary follows established procedures and that the CJI does not personally hear every case, as matters are assigned to specific benches. He suggested that the opposition's actions indicate a lack of faith in the constitutional framework and the judicial system.

In a separate critique, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC accused the Congress party of working at the behest of foreign powers to destabilize India. She specifically referenced a deleted post by the Kerala Congress calling for the removal of the CJI, suggesting such rhetoric aims to damage the nation's image and undermine institutions like the Supreme Court and the Election Commission.
