India Optel launches indigenous Garud binoculars for civilian market
India Optel Limited (IOL), a Mini Ratna Category-I defence public sector undertaking, has launched its indigenous ‘Garud’ high-resolution binoculars for the civilian market. Developed and manufactured by the Ordnance Factory in Dehradun, the product is part of the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-reliant India) initiative.
The binoculars feature 8x magnification, a 7.6-degree field of view, and ±5 diopter adjustment to accommodate different eyesight needs. Designed for portability and durability, the weather-resistant device weighs approximately 610 grams and includes ergonomic grips and soft-touch eyecups.
While originally based on a platform used by the Indian armed forces and central armed police forces, this civilian version is intended for various uses, including wildlife observation, birdwatching, travel, forestry, marine activities, and security applications.
