India's PM Modi launches 23rd PM‑Kisan installment worth Rs 18,880 cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM‑Kisan) on 20 June 2026 from Tarakeswar, West Bengal. The payment of Rs 18,880 crore was transferred directly via Direct Benefit Transfer to the bank accounts of about 9.44 crore farmer families nationwide, including over 2.18 crore women farmers.

State‑level roll‑outs reported large beneficiary numbers: Gujarat saw 51.28 lakh farmers receive more than Rs 1,025 crore; Assam over 18.56 lakh farmers got Rs 371 crore; Uttarakhand more than 8 lakh farmers obtained Rs 159 crore; Odisha 34 lakh farmers were credited Rs 692 crore. The event also marked the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (world’s largest crop‑insurance scheme) and other agricultural initiatives such as AgriStack, the National Mission on Natural Farming and the Pradhan Mantri Dhan‑Dhaanya Yojana. Infrastructure projects unveiled included the Sankrail‑Santragachi railway link, a 300‑bed railway hospital in Howrah and a new road overbridge in Purba Medinipur.
