India police bust cyber fraud gang exploiting fake traffic‑challan scams

Cybersecurity officials have issued a national advisory warning that fraudsters are sending SMS and WhatsApp messages that mimic official traffic‑violation notices. The messages contain malicious links or APK files that, when installed, give attackers access to victims' devices and banking applications, allowing them to siphon funds.

Separately, police in Jharkhand’s Giridih district arrested five members of a cyber‑fraud racket linked to Odisha. The gang used deceptive files named “Customer Support APK” and “WiFi APK” to lure users into downloading malicious software, defrauding victims of lakhs of rupees. During the operation, authorities seized ten mobile phones, thirteen SIM cards, a laptop and four motorcycles, and have filed a case at the Cyber Crime Police Station.
