India Police Explain FIR Withdrawal Process After CJP Protest and Education Minister Resignation

Delhi police officers detailed the procedure for withdrawing First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against participants in the Cockeroche Janata Party (CJP) protests that followed Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. They clarified that a government decision to drop a case must be documented in writing, but the FIR remains until a court order or a full police report is presented to the judiciary, after which the FIR can be cancelled. The officers noted that serious allegations, such as attacks on police or extensive property damage, require court approval before any FIR can be dismissed.

In parallel, the Delhi police have intensified monitoring of online content related to the protests. Journalist Yaqoot Ali’s interview with former CJP spokesperson Vijayta Dahia was repeatedly blocked on Instagram under the Information Technology Act, despite lacking any defamatory remarks about the Prime Minister. Police officials reported that over 450 posts alleged to contain deep‑fake or AI‑generated material have been flagged, reflecting a broader effort to control narratives surrounding the movement.
