India police investigate defamatory social‑media posts about Akhilesh Yadav's daughter

The Uttar Pradesh government ordered an investigation after a social‑media post on 9 June alleged false and insulting claims about Akhilesh Yadav’s daughter, Aditi Yadav. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed police to file an FIR, which was registered at the Kanpur cyber‑crime cell. The investigation team has written to Meta’s headquarters seeking user‑ID, IP address and other technical details of the Facebook accounts that circulated the material. Three individuals – India Kumar Patel, Nageshwar Singh Baghel and Vinod Kumar Yadav – have been named in the FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act, while one accused, Nageshwar Singh, released a video apology.

Political leaders, including senior SP figure Dinesh Sharma and local cleric Maulana Jamal Hayat, condemned the posts as attacks on women’s dignity and called for strict legal action. The case underscores rising concerns over online harassment of political families in India.
