India police open investigations into sexual assault and blackmail cases in Kolkata and Karnataka

Police in Kolkata have registered a case after a woman alleged that she was repeatedly raped and blackmailed with private photos and videos. The complaint, first filed at Metiabruz police station and later transferred to Bansdroni, details assaults dating back to 2021, including a recent incident in a hotel where the victim was forced to walk naked on a balcony. In Karnataka, a married woman filed an FIR against a local gym owner, identified as Ismail, accusing him of repeatedly raping her, recording illicit images in the gym’s changing room, and threatening to distribute the material on social media. The victim reported threats to her and her husband’s reputation and claims the assailant also threatened her life. Police in Davangere are investigating the allegations under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code.
