India police seize over Rs 8.6 crore counterfeit notes in Nagpur and Rs 13.5 lakh in Guwahati

Police in Nagpur arrested two suspects after a tip‑off led to a highway trap that uncovered fake currency bundles printed with the fictitious “Children’s Bank of India”. Authorities seized 2,300 counterfeit note bundles with a face value of Rs 8.65 crore, along with Rs 5,600 in genuine cash, a car and mobile phones. The duo, identified as Afroz Khan Zamirulla Khan (43) and Irshad Jumman Shaikh (26), had been offering fake bundles allegedly worth Rs 8 lakh for Rs 1 lakh in real cash.

In Guwahati, the Dispur Police Station conducted two operations on June 30 and July 1 that resulted in five arrests and the seizure of counterfeit Indian notes worth Rs 13.5 lakh. The detainees, who had arrived from Uttar Pradesh and Assam’s Darrang district under the pretext of buying gold, were part of a network whose counterfeit notes were of poor quality and unlikely to enter regular circulation. Investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the fake currency and dismantle the racket.
