India: Political divide grows over Modi's leadership and election integrity

India's political landscape is marked by contrasting narratives regarding the nation's leadership and democratic integrity. Union Home Minister Amit Shah celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 25 years in public service, noting his transition from Chief Minister of Gujarat to Prime Minister. Shah credited Modi's leadership with driving growth in manufacturing, digital payments, semiconductors, and defense production, while highlighting poverty alleviation and infrastructure achievements.

In contrast, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has launched intense protests against the current administration and the Election Commission. Gandhi accused Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of hijacking the country through ‘vote theft.’

Following a failed march by INDIA alliance MPs to meet election commissioners, Gandhi and other Congress leaders initiated a sit-in protest at the Akashvani Bhawan complex. Gandhi questioned the meaning of democracy if elected representatives are denied access to the Election Commission, vowing to continue the protest until accountability is established.
