India Post expands last-mile reach through private logistics partnerships

Private logistics companies are increasingly partnering with India Post to enhance last-mile delivery services to remote and underserved regions. By leveraging the government-run postal network, these firms can expand their reach into smaller towns without the heavy capital investment required to build independent infrastructure.

Major players including Blue Dart Express, DTDC, and Flipkart have entered into formal agreements with the Department of Posts in 2026. Blue Dart signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend coverage into Tier-III and Tier-IV towns, while DTDC has strengthened its collaboration to facilitate nationwide parcel deliveries and cash-on-delivery shipments. Flipkart’s partnership also focuses on improving access across urban, semi-urban, and rural areas.

With approximately 1.64 lakh post offices, India Post provides an extensive network that allows private operators to navigate difficult geographies. These synergies are expected to improve infrastructure utilization and parcel movement efficiency as India’s e-commerce market continues to grow.
