India Post launches digital modernization drive and new mobile apps

Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia has launched a modernization initiative for India Post, aimed at integrating digital technology with the institution's legacy operations. During an event in New Delhi, Scindia inaugurated 14 renovated post offices across the country, including the Shillong General Post Office.

The initiative includes the launch of two mobile applications: the Dak Seva App and the Dak MITRA App. The Dak Seva App is a citizen-facing platform available in 23 languages, allowing users to locate post offices, track parcels, book services, and make digital payments via UPI or internet banking. The Dak MITRA App is designed for postal staff across approximately 1.3 to 1.4 lakh branch offices, enabling them to manage banking, insurance, and mail services through a single portal with OTP-based security.

According to officials, the modernization drive includes the remodeling of over 110 post offices in universities and 40 in major cities, with more than 5,700 centers now capable of real-time logistics tracking. The goal of these upgrades is to transition from traditional in-person service models to a system where postal workers can deliver digital and financial services directly to citizens.
