India Post to expand drone mail delivery in Himachal Pradesh

India Post is expanding its drone delivery service to improve mail and parcel accessibility in the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh. The initiative aims to bypass difficult terrain, winding roads, and long travel times that traditionally delay deliveries to remote mountain villages.

Currently, the service is operational on 36 routes, with plans to expand the network to a total of 110 routes. The drones are capable of transporting both letters and parcels directly between post offices, significantly reducing delivery times from hours to minutes.

The program was initially piloted by delivering the national flag via drone from the Mandi main post office to the Rehrdhar branch post office. Sanjay Singh, Chief Postmaster General of the Himachal Pradesh Postal Circle, announced the expansion plans during World Post Day celebrations.
