India prepares for 80th Independence Day celebrations

As India approaches its 80th Independence Day in 2026, the significance of the national flag, known as the Tiranga, remains a central symbol of the country's identity. The flag's current design was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on July 22, 1947, based on designs developed by freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya at the request of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Tricolour consists of three equal horizontal bands: saffron at the top, white in the middle, and green at the bottom, with a navy-blue 24-spoke Ashoka Chakra in the center. The saffron band symbolizes courage, strength, and sacrifice, while the white and green bands complete the national emblem.

To celebrate the occasion, culinary themes often incorporate the flag's colors through specific food pairings, such as saffron-infused rice, white dairy-based dishes like raita, and green vegetable or chutney components.
