Ather, Honda and Yamaha prepare new electric scooter models for Indian market

Ather announced that it will unveil a family‑oriented electric scooter based on its EL platform on August 29, positioning it as the company’s most affordable model with battery options ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh and an expected range of 100–160 km. The launch is part of a broader push by Indian manufacturers to blend practicality, range and price in the growing EV scooter segment.

Honda is developing the next generation Activa 7G, slated for release later this year. While retaining its popular 109 cc engine, the Activa 7G will feature modest visual updates such as chrome inserts, a silent starter and improved storage, keeping it in the practical family‑scooter class.

In Japan, Yamaha filed design patents that reveal a new electric scooter concept with a mid‑mounted motor driving the rear wheel via a belt, a removable under‑seat battery, telescopic front forks, disc brakes and a small TFT display. Although no launch date is set, the design suggests a commuter‑focused model that could eventually enter the Indian market, where demand for electric two‑wheelers is expanding rapidly.
