India proposes bullet train corridor connecting Delhi to UP and Bihar

Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a proposed bullet train corridor designed to connect Delhi with major cities across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. If implemented, the project would follow the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor as the next major high-speed rail phase in the country.

The project aims to significantly reduce travel times from the national capital. Estimated travel times include 58 minutes to Agra, 1 hour 50 minutes to Kanpur, 2 hours 12 minutes to Lucknow, 3 hours to Prayagraj, 3 hours 33 minutes to Varanasi, and 4.5 hours to Patna.

Beyond improving transit for daily commuters, the corridor is expected to stimulate economic activity and tourism within the Delhi-UP-Bihar belt, particularly benefiting religious tourism hubs such as Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Patna.
