India proposes three-part ceasefire plan for Russia-Ukraine war

India has proposed a three-part ceasefire plan intended to reduce hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. The proposal, which was communicated to Ukrainian leaders during External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s recent visit to Kyiv, focuses on three primary pillars: halting attacks on energy facilities and critical infrastructure, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of grain and energy through Black Sea ports, and ending strikes on commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.

Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister Dmytro Sybiha described the Indian proposal as the ‘most comprehensive’ among those received from various nations, noting that it addresses maritime security and infrastructure concerns alongside combat operations. The conflict has significantly impacted global trade, with Black Sea ports playing a vital role in energy and food supplies. The proposal comes as the war enters its fifth year and follows recent incidents involving the safety of commercial vessels and seafarers.
