India provides 100 tonnes of wheat seeds to Indonesia to boost food security

India announced that it will supply 100 tonnes of the high‑quality "DWR 162" wheat seeds to Indonesia as part of a broader effort to strengthen the Southeast Asian nation’s food‑security system. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the pledge during his state visit to Jakarta, where the two leaders also signed a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation and elevated bilateral ties to a "Golden Chapter" of a comprehensive strategic partnership.

The seed shipment is intended to help Indonesia, which does not grow wheat domestically and relies heavily on imports, reduce its vulnerability to supply disruptions. India will also share sustainable farming practices and agri‑technology, including artificial‑intelligence tools, IoT devices, drones and autonomous tractors, to improve productivity and resilience in Indonesian agriculture.

The cooperation was highlighted as a key component of the 16 bilateral agreements signed during the visit, which covered defence, space, healthcare, technology and critical minerals alongside agriculture.
