India publishing sector nears pre-pandemic print revenue highs
India’s publishing and print sectors are approaching pre-pandemic revenue levels, according to recent market analyses. While physical print remains resilient—particularly in trade fiction, regional literature, and K-12 educational materials—the industry is transitioning into a hybrid era. Digital revenue, including e-books, audiobooks, and subscription apps, now accounts for approximately 25% of total revenue for major publishing houses.
To support this evolving landscape, the Federation of Indian Publishers (FIP), in collaboration with NielsenIQ BookData, has announced the release of the India Book Market Report 2026-2030. This comprehensive study aims to map the industry’s scale, structure, and future growth drivers, such as Artificial Intelligence, digitization, and the expansion of Indian-language markets. Pranav Gupta, Vice President of the FIP, described the report as an “industry infrastructure project” designed to provide a factual foundation for policymakers, investors, and businesses to make data-driven decisions regarding growth, investment, and copyright.
