India pushes global drug regulator cooperation and expands pharma trade to Panama

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal announced that India is seeking tighter collaboration with drug regulators worldwide, using the two‑day Global Drug Regulatory Conclave 2026 in New Delhi as a platform. The initiative aims to speed access to high‑quality, affordable medicines and to cement India’s role as a hub for pharmaceutical innovation, backed by the country's expanding network of trade agreements. Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda highlighted the need for science‑based, transparent regulatory systems to protect public health and foster innovation.

At the same time, Indian Ambassador to Panama Sumit Seth, before concluding his posting, said intensive talks with Panama’s Ministry of Health and Social Insurance Fund are laying the groundwork for more Indian pharmaceutical firms to enter the Panamanian market. The goal is to increase competition, lower drug prices and use Panama as a strategic gateway to the broader Latin American region. Both moves reflect India’s broader strategy to expand the reach of its pharmaceutical industry and improve global access to affordable medicines.
