India rainfall provides relief to crops in Jhabua and Saurashtra

Recent rainfall in parts of India has provided significant relief to farmers following prolonged dry spells. In the Jhabua district, rain arrived after an eight-day hiatus, offering a lifeline to crops that were struggling due to a severe deficit in seasonal precipitation. Total rainfall in Jhabua as of mid-September has reached only 481.6 mm, significantly lower than the 822.8 mm recorded during the same period last year.

Similarly, the Saurashtra region has experienced a return of rain after nearly a month of waiting. Heavy downpours were reported in areas including Amreli, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, and Jamnagar. In Rajula, Amreli, torrential rain caused localized flooding on major roads.

The moisture from these rains is expected to benefit essential crops such as cotton, groundnut, soybean, and sesame. The rainfall has also helped mitigate heat and humidity, though officials note that the overall seasonal rainfall deficit in some regions remains a concern for long-term water levels in wells and rivers.
