India raises domestic LPG cylinder price by Rs 29 amid global energy costs
India increased the retail price of a standard 14.2‑kg domestic LPG cylinder to ₹942 in Delhi, up from ₹913, marking a second price rise in three months. The hike of ₹29 follows a ₹60 increase on 7 March and is attributed to rising global energy costs after the West Asia conflict, which pushed the international LPG benchmark (Saudi Contract Price) up about 46 %.
State‑run oil marketing companies were reported to be losing roughly ₹700 per cylinder before the revision; the government said it is absorbing part of the cost and that subsidies keep the effective price for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries at ₹642. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas emphasized that, despite the increase, India’s LPG remains among the world’s cheapest, noting lower prices than neighboring countries and developed economies.
The LPG revision coincides with broader fuel price moves – petrol and diesel have risen about ₹7.5 per litre since mid‑May, and CNG prices are up roughly ₹6 per kg. Officials warned that further global crude price volatility could trigger additional adjustments.
