India ranks highest globally for unpaid work hours, ADP report finds

A report by ADP titled ‘People at Work 2026’ reveals that India ranks first globally for unpaid work hours. According to the survey, which included over 39,000 employees across 36 countries, 24% of Indian workers perform 16 or more unpaid hours per week.

In addition to those working extended unpaid hours, 40% of Indian employees report working between 6 and 15 unpaid hours weekly. Overall, approximately two-thirds of the Indian workforce surveyed reported performing at least six hours of unpaid work every week.

Other countries ranked in the report include Turkey at 23%, Australia at 21%, and the United States at 20%. The Czech Republic reported the lowest figures, with only 4% of employees working 16 or more unpaid hours.
