India readies for FIFA World Cup 2026 with free TV broadcast

India will broadcast selected FIFA World Cup 2026 matches on the state‑run DD Sports channel at no cost. The opening game between Mexico and South Africa on 11 June, as well as the quarter‑finals (10‑12 July), semi‑finals (15‑16 July) and the final (20 July), will be shown free of charge. Additional coverage will be provided through the UNITE8 Sports network, which offers Hindi and English commentary across four channels.

Former Indian international Mehtab Hussain told reporters that England and Portugal could emerge as the tournament’s strongest contenders. He highlighted players such as Riyad Mahrez, Lamine Yamal, Gavi, Pedro, and Jude Bellingham, noting that the competition may be the last for legends like Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo. Hussain urged Indian players to learn from these top teams to improve the sport’s future in the country.
