India readies inauguration of 15 railway stations under Amrit Bharat Scheme
The Ministry of Railways is preparing to inaugurate fifteen railway stations upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. Six stations in Kerala – Thalassery, Tirur, Nilambur Road, Parappanangadi, Chalakudy and Angamali – have completed redevelopment work, while nine stations in Tamil Nadu – Chennai Park, Coonoor, Chinna Salem and others – are also near completion.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to dedicate the stations to the nation via videoconferencing on either July 12 or July 17. The upgrades, costing between ₹2.5 crore and ₹26.55 crore per station, include modern amenities such as lifts, escalators, foot‑over‑bridges, expanded platforms, waiting halls, multi‑level parking, CCTV surveillance and improved passenger facilities.
The scheme, launched in 2023, aims to modernise more than 1,300 stations across India, enhancing accessibility, safety and local architectural integration.
