India rebukes Birmingham Mayor over Kashmir remarks

India's Ministry of External Affairs has issued a strong rebuke following controversial remarks made by Birmingham Mayor Zaker Choudhry regarding the status of Kashmir. During an event last month, Choudhry stated, “Kashmir is ours, Pakistan is ours, and the army is ours,” while calling for diplomatic dialogue between the Pakistani government and the Kashmiri side.

Responding to the comments, MEA Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reaffirmed India's territorial stance, stating that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India. The remarks have drawn criticism from various observers, and some citizens in the United Kingdom have called for the mayor's deportation.
