India records 265 million cyberattack attempts, report says
A new report by Indian cybersecurity firm Lisianthus Tech documents more than 265 million cyber‑attack attempts and 369 million malware detections during the assessment period. The study highlights that the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT‑In) logged over 2.9 million cybersecurity incidents in 2025.
Operation Sindoor, a focal point of the report, saw roughly 1.5 million attack attempts, including DDoS, phishing, malware and website defacements, with about 150 incidents resulting in successful system compromises. Critical infrastructure is especially vulnerable: the power sector alone faced nearly 200,000 intrusion attempts, while telecom networks and government systems also experienced sustained threats.
Lisianthus Tech founder and CEO Khushhal Kaushik warned that the scale of attacks makes cybersecurity a national‑security imperative, calling for stronger defence mechanisms and greater cyber awareness across citizens, officials and industry leaders.
