India reduces rural LPG refill booking interval to 25 days

The Indian government has reduced the minimum interval for domestic LPG refill bookings in rural areas from 45 days to 25 days. This change brings rural consumers in line with the 25-day interval already applicable to urban users.

Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi announced the decision, noting that the previous 45-day restriction was a temporary demand-management measure. That measure was introduced following supply pressures caused by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

With domestic LPG supplies improving and refill backlogs significantly reduced, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed major state-run oil marketing companies—Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL)—to implement the revised 25-day interval with immediate effect.

While domestic LPG cylinder prices remain stable, some reports indicate a slight increase in the cost of 19kg commercial cylinders due to rising global crude oil prices.
