Ghana attracts US$2.62 billion in FDI for 2025
Ghana recorded US$2.62 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2025, according to the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) 2025 Annual Investment Report. The inflows were generated from 254 projects, including new ventures and expansions by existing companies. The petroleum and free zones sectors were major recipients of capital.
While the headline FDI figure is significant, central bank data shows that of the US$1.91 billion in net inflows, approximately 95.4% consisted of reinvested earnings. The government is now shifting its strategy to ensure that capital translates into tangible economic benefits, such as increased production, industrial linkages, and job creation, rather than focusing solely on the volume of funds.
The registered projects are projected to create 18,748 jobs once fully operational, with Ghanaians expected to occupy approximately 90.3% of these positions. GIPA is targeting US$11.4 billion in announced investments by the end of 2026, focusing on sectors like manufacturing, agribusiness, mining, and technology. Additionally, the Bank of Ghana is working to develop financial products to steer diaspora remittances toward productive enterprise development and job creation instead of household consumption.
