India reports 51 deaths among nationals serving in Russian army

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed the Supreme Court that approximately 267 Indian nationals have joined the Russian armed forces. Of these individuals, 51 have reportedly died and 139 have been discharged.

According to a status report submitted on October 12, the Indian government and its Ambassador in Moscow are working with Russian authorities to locate 77 Indian citizens. Russian authorities have officially declared seven of these individuals as missing.

The MEA highlighted concerns regarding individuals voluntarily enlisting in the Russian military to obtain financial rewards, under the mistaken belief that Indian diplomatic intervention would ensure their safe release. The government continues to issue warnings against accepting unverified overseas job offers and emphasizes the extreme risks associated with such recruitment.
